Our story
BASAK began where a life in Portugal met a deep longing for the everyday street food of Korea.
How BASAK began
From longing to sharing.
About fifteen years ago, while working in travel and living in Portugal, we came to know the rhythm of local life up close. Among wonderful people and beautiful places, we still found ourselves missing the familiar tastes of Korea: hot dogs outside school, tteokbokki from a street stall, and chicken shared at home.
Wanting to taste them again soon became a wish to introduce them to people in Portugal. We did not want to offer unfamiliar names alone; we wanted to explain the flavor and texture, and the moments and people these foods are shared with in Korea.
That wish became BASAK. Food cooked crisp to order, Korean names and sauces kept with pride, and simple explanations that welcome first-time guests — bringing everyday life in Portugal and Korea together at one table.
